The Integrity Gap
The DC Shuffle is the song & dance our politicians perform to distract you from noticing the gaps between what they say and what they do. This is a non-partisan site dedicated to highlighting the integrity gaps that politicians display and the variety of contortions in logic and language used to mask that gap. Ultimately the goal is to improve the quality of information Americans have available to them about their politicians before casting their next vote.
What caliber is Congress and does the President come with a warranty?
Politics is best described by Ambrose Bierce as a “strife of interests masquerading as a contest of principles.”
Power may corrupt but it is truer to say that power attracts the corruptible, David Brin correctly surmised.
Politics and power are like weaponry. Whether they are a force for the public good or personal self-interest depends on the person wielding it.
Professional politicians are masters at selling us images of themselves and their opponents which are usually thin on facts and long on deceptive innuendo, distortion, and emotion. They do it because it works and will continue until it stops working. It’s bait & switch. If they were selling a product instead of themselves, we would frequently be suing them for false advertising or standing in line at the returns counter.
Politicians spend millions on advertising campaigns to convince us of who they are and what they stand for. I think you can get a better idea by comparing what they claim against what they have done.
The Author
My name is Paul. I am a U.S. Navy veteran who continues to support the military as a government contractor. I come from a Midwestern blue-collar background where I put myself through college and have had a wide array of jobs ranging from being a house cleaner, cabinetmaker, and truck driver to being a high school teacher, electronics technician, systems engineer, and a writer. I do not belong to any political parties or organizations but do vote regularly and pay close attention to the direction my country is heading.
The Writing
The DC Shuffle is a place for reasoned debate, dissent, argument and thoughtful analysis backed up by reliable sources and verifiable facts. It is not a place for fallacies and careless arguments. Engaging in flaming, personal attacks, simplistic labeling and name-calling, and rabid, blind, or thoughtless rants dressed up in patriotic jingoism are unwelcome here.
